Artistic Statement

For me, dance is a tool I use to express thoughts and emotions that I am unable to verbalize. I will allow motion to run though me and leave in a fleeting moment. I am striving to live in the moment within this art form.
As a choreographer, the only way I can be accessible to other artists and to my audience is by being open, expressive, and confident in my work. I will do this by letting the movement tell me what it wants to be. If I decide what the work is before it is finished, I am putting myself in a box, only attempting to fulfill its label rather than allowing for new ideas. I will find inspiration in my work through the balance of my imagination and real life events.
To accomplish this, my work must be authentic and relatable to an audience. I will be collaborative with my peers, yet ultimately have the confidence to trust myself and have the decisions I make be well constructed for the audience.
